This article reviews the key differences between Jabra Elite 85t vs Jabra Elite 7 Pro new flagship earbuds based on design specs. The Jabra Elite 7 Pro is now available at Amazon.
Why are we comparing the Elite 7 Pro to the Elite 85t? Is the Jabra Elite 7 Pro replacing the Jabra Elite 85t as the flagship model? Based on the numbering, the Elite 7 Pro should be the upgrade for Elite 75t, which Jabra wrote the new earbud is smaller by 16% in size. But we will compare it to the Elite 85t instead to see if it has surpassed the specifications.

Tech Specs | Jabra Elite 7 Pro | Jabra Elite Active 75t |
Size (each earbud) | 19.1x16x17.6mm | 21.9×19.4×16.2 mm |
Estimated Volume | 5.38 cm3 | 6.88cm3 |
Weight (each earbud) | 5.4g | 5.5g |
Based on the above-estimated volume assuming its a cubic, the Jabra Elite 7 Pro is in fact smaller by about 21.8%. The Jabra Elite Active 75t is already very small and the Jabra Elite 7 Pro has an even smaller profile that fits into the concha of the ear and flushes with the outer ear lobe.
Will there be a Jabra Elite 8 Pro? They should design one with earwings to compete with the latest new flagship earbuds from JBL, the JBL Reflect Flow Pro.
IP57 Rating
Based on Jabra latest chart, the Jabra Elite 7 Pro has IP57, which matches it to the same as the sports earbuds, Jabra Elite 7 Active.
IP57 | Dust protected. Dust must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment. | Protected from water for 30mins. Depending on size of test sample, the highest point must be >150mm below water surface, or the lowest point must be >1m, whichever is lower. |
The Jabra Elite 85t only has IPX4 which is protected from water spray from any direction, and including rain, but not tested against dust or any solid.
Elite 7 Pro wins.
Bone Conduction Sensor
The new Elite 7 Pro has a bone conduction sensor which Jabra called the VPU (Voice Pick Up) sensor. Then they mentioned the new Jabra MultiSensor Voice technology which should be referring to the VPU. A similar bone conduction sensor is also found in the Sony WF-1000XM4. This sensor transmits the voice spoken by the vibration on the jawbone, hence allowing clear voices to be captured without environmental noises.
Elite 7 Pro wins.
Three(3) Mics Per Earbuds
Combining four powerful microphones with an advanced Voice Pick Up (VPU) sensor in each bud, Jabra MultiSensor Voice™ completely reinvents calls on the go. |
The Elite 7 Pro has a total of 6 microphones which include 4 microphones for noise cancelling. For hybrid ANC which include Feedforward(FF) ANC and Feedback(FB) ANC, at least 4 microphones are required.
Feedforward(FF) ANC is better at reducing higher-frequency noise at up to 1-2 kHz. It is based on the mic picking up the noise earlier and generating the “anti-noise” to the user. Feedback(FB) ANC works on a broader range of frequencies except for 1-2kHz. It is based on the mic picking up what the user hears. For both to work at the same time, each earbud needs to have a total of 3 mics, which includes two ANC mics and one voice mic.
The Elite 7 Pro win because of Multi-Sensor Voice technology which uses adjustable ANC from 4 microphones to cancel surrounding noises including wind noise, and also uses bone conduction technology to transmit the user’s voice.
Elite 7 Pro win
Smaller and Lighter
The Jabra Elite 7 Pro is 16% smaller than Elite 75t. When compared against, the Jabra Elite 85t, the Elite 7 Pro weighs 14% lighter. The smaller form factor is also said to be the result of data from 62,000 ear scans.
To design Elite 7 Pro, we started from the very beginning, using data from 62,000 ear scans to create the perfectly shaped bud. With a clean, elegant, minimalist profile and a body designed to sit more snugly in the ear, Elite 7 Pro is a true feat of miniaturization. |
Elite 7 Pro wins.
Battery Life
The Jabra Elite 7 Pro has a battery life of 9h with ANC on, and a combined battery life of 35h including the charger box. Currently, this is one of the best battery life in available in the market. Elite 7 Pro also charge much faster than Elite 85t, and takes only 5 mins to charge for an hour of battery life.
Elite 7 Pro wins.
Verdict
In this comparison of Jabra Elite 7 Pro vs Jabra Elite 85t, it is clear that the Jabra Elite 7 Pro has significantly more advanced design features when compared to the Jabra Elite 85t.
The only exception is that it has only 2 mics per earbud, and so it has non-hybrid ANC. A hybrid ANC has better noise cancellation as it comprises feedback and feedforward ANC microphone. We are unsure if there will be any Elite 8 Pro with 3 mics per earbud in the future but at this time, the Elite 7 Pro is shown to be better than the Elite 85t in terms of specifications.
