Add Unlimited Keywords For Free With Simple Plugin

Many users are looking for ways to add multiple meta keywords and descriptions in WordPress without any plugin. Some websites have suggested using “Custom Fields”, but would require adding custom code in function.php. The problem with that approach is that any such customization will be overwritten when WordPress upgrades.

The ability to customize meta descriptions and keywords for each post and page should be a basic function in any content management system. Back in the 2000s, the earlier CMS such as those from Interspire, is designed to allow authors to easily add and customize multiple meta keywords and descriptions for each page for free.

WordPress as the leading CMS, does not have such a basic function to modify the meta description and keywords for each post. Popular plugins such as Yoast and All-In-One SEO charge users to have such “editing capability but this is just the beginning. The user still has to perform the arduous tasks of manually researching and deciding what keywords to use and adding them one by one.

We believe that the ability to add and customize multiple keywords for each post and page should be a free function that comes with a basic CMS. What SEO plugins should do is charge users for value-added functions such as keyword suggestions and popularity from external sources.

Since WordPress does not have such a basic function, the only solution is to find a really simple plugin that allows us to do just that, and for free. We are not saying that we are willing to pay for anything at all but to get paid the service has to be a value add and not a basic function in open-source software. There are suggestions below as to what should be a paid service that is related to “keywords”.

Simple Plugin For Unlimited Keywords

We are not affiliated with the plugin author when we recommend that you can use this plugin completely free without all the bloated and marketing stuff found on the expensive SEO plugins.

Simple SEO by David Cole

It has been tested since WordPress 4.6.2 and is updated to the current version at 5.8.1 as I write.

The magic is just this tab which both Yoast and All-In-One SEO will make you pay for $89 per year, along with all the other bloated “SEO” goodies which are not really necessary. What you need are the right keywords and good content, and you should not pay to add multiple keywords to any webpage.

Again, if you have been using CMS since the early 2000s, you will know the “ability” to add multiple keywords are the most basic function like a title and content box. WordPress was never the best CMS in the early days but it has been made popular by the sheer amount of plugins and themes available.

Pay for Value-Added Ability or Services

If any SEO software is charging users for “keywords”, they should in the form of value-added services, for example:

  • Automatic Keyword Generator – to be able to suggest keywords based on title and content.
  • Keyword Popularity – to be able to suggest which keyword would be more likely used and to provide competitive information.
  • Assuming a blog with over 100 posts and installing the SEO software for the first time. The SEO software could have a paid function to automatically generate keywords for all the pages.

Anyone can create content and keywords, but they do not guarantee that we get to the top of search results and get the traffic we need.

So why should Yoast and All-in-One SEO charges make us pay money when the war has not yet even started? I don’t mind paying for something that helps me get to the top of search pages, but not the ability to “add keywords”.

It’s a joke and feels like extortion by WordPress and the SEO Plugin developers.

Below shows the page where the SEO title and meta description can be modified. You can install Yoast and All-In-One SEO and use their accessible functions, including sitemap generation, schema, etc. The Sitemap generator from Simple SEO is not working as we speak, so we are using both SEO plugins at this time, and they are free.
