The advantage of the Nakamichi Thrill is the lower price tag which is 40% cheaper than the JBL Flip 6, and it has the 3.5mm ear jack, which is normally omitted on most devices nowadays.
The Nakamichi Thrill has several drawbacks when compared to the JBL Flip 6:
- The IPX7 rating for water resistance is the same as Flip 5 but now loses out to the new Flip 6, which has an IP67 rating. The fundamental difference between IPX7 and IP67 is the dust-tight design certification for the latter.
- Nakamichi Thrill has a much shorter, 6 hours battery life compared to 12 hours for the JBL Flip 5 and 6. This is not surprising, as it has a smaller battery capacity of 3000 mAh. We would expect the Thrill to be significantly lighter with a smaller battery capacity but the overall weight is still 500 grams, with only 50 grams savings from the JBL Flip 6 which has a much larger, 4800 mAh battery.
- Besides shorter battery life, the Nakamichi Thrill has a longer charging time of between 3 to 5 hours.
The Nakamichi Thrill is still a worthy alternative to the JBL Flip 6, as we believe the significantly lower price and 3.5mm ear jack would appeal to some users. The IPX7 is durable under sweat, rain and even submerging in water, but we believe the Thrill should float in water like the JBL Flip 6 because of the air-tight design.
