Jabra Evolve2 Earbuds and Apple AirPods Pro 2 are two of the most advanced earbuds released in the last quarter of 2022. In this article, we review and compare the technical specifications and features to see if there is a clear winner in terms of design. In summary, if you own a non-Apple smartphone, your best option should be the Jabra Evolve2 Earbuds. However, if you use the iPhone, you can choose either earbud.

Evolve2 Earbuds Look Better Than AirPods Pro 2
Even if you can ignore the boom, the Apple AirPods Pro 2 is still significantly bigger than the Jabra Evolve2 earbuds. From the photos below, the Apple AirPods Pro 2’s will stick out of the earlobes, unlike the Jabra Evolve2 or Elite 7 Pro, which flushes neatly with the earlobe for a clean external look.
Many users dislike large earbuds and always aim for the most petite design that is sharp and neat. The “boom” design makes the AirPods look obsolete and old-fashioned.
Evolve2 Earbuds Has Better IP Ratings than AirPods Pro 2
The Jabra Evolve2 has an IP57 rating, while the Air Pods Pro 2 has only IPX4.
IPXY | First Digit – SOLIDS | Second Digit – LIQUIDS | Remarks |
IP57 (Evolve2) | Dust protected. Dust must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment. | It is protected from water for 30mins. Depending on the size of the test sample, the highest point must be >150mm below the water surface, or the lowest point must be >1m. | For example, if an object is 1m tall, the top part must be submerged at least 150mm below the surface. This means the lowest point is 1.15m deep. |
IPX4(AirPods Pro 2) | Untested against solids | It is protected from water spray from any direction, including sweat and rain. |
As you can see above, even though the Jabra Evolve2 earbuds are not designed specifically for sports, they can endure water sports and outdoor exercise easily due to IP57 rating. We do not recommend using the AirPods in an outdoor environment unless you like to test your luck with your $249 earbuds that are only rated IPX4.
Evolve2 Earbuds Physical Button Vs. AirPods Pro 2 Touch Button
We feel physical button design works very well in any condition, whether in the office, outdoors or on the move. As for touch control, we think it is most comfortable indoors when stationary or slow walking. We have tried to run hundreds of miles with touch-control earbuds and find that double or triple taps are prone to incorrect fixtures due to body movement, and we never have the same issue with physical button controls.
Colorful Vs. Boring Earbuds
Currently, the Jabra Evolve2 earbuds only have black colors, but we expect more color options to be available in the coming month. However, Apple accessories are traditionally white and will always be white.

Which is better? Adjustable Vs. Adaptive Transparency
You can adjust the Jabra Evolve2 earbud’s transparency or “HearThrough” level via the phone app Jabra +. This controls the ambient sound (or noise) level you hear through your Evolve2 earbuds. Such a powerful customization feature is available for all the latest models of Jabra earbuds.
The adaptive transparency in Apple AirPods Pro 2 works similarly by providing a slider on the iPhone or iPad to control the amount of ambient noise that passes through. Apple incorporated this feature under Accessibility as a hearing aid, and can be accessed via:
Settings > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations
So the answer is that adjustable transparency in Jabra Evolve2 earbuds is similar ot the adaptive transparency on the Apple AirPods Pro 2.
Evolve2 Sidetone
Sidetone is the ability to hear your voice from the earbuds driver so that you will know how loud you are speaking. Apple AirPods Pro 2 does not have this feature stated on their specifications.
Accessibility
The Apple AirPods Pro 2 “seem” to beat the Jabra Evolve2 earbuds regarding accessibility features.
- Live Listen Audio works by placing your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in front of the person you want to hear in a noisy environment. All you need to do is adjust the volume on your device, and it will send what he says to your AirPods Pro 2 earbuds in real-time. Another exciting feature is that you can also see the audio sound levels in decibels.
- Head Phone Levels allow you to monitor your earbuds’ audio exposure level (in decibels) coming from audio playbacks, such as your music. This is in contrast to Live Listen, which tracks the audio level of external sound. We are uncertain if such an “audio meter” should be classified as an “accessibilities” feature, as it does not seem to serve any purpose. In comparison, Jabra’s PeakStop technology is beneficial as it blocks sudden and harmful sound spikes to protect the ear.
- Headphone Accommodations for Apple AirPods Pro 2 are the same as the “adjustable transparency” mode on the Jabra + apps that have been around for a long time.
- Conversation Boost allows the AirPods Pro 2 to work as a hearing aid to help you hear the person in front of you. Compared to Live Listen Audio, Conversation Boost works best in a quieter environment.
AirPods Pro 2 Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking
Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio refers to 3-dimensional sound, which is expanded from the 2-dimensional Surround Sound system we are familiar with. With personalized, dynamic head tracking, Apple introduced a new feature to capture your head and ear position data, controlling how the sound changes as the head turn.
Microphones
Up to 2022, the most advanced earbuds must have at least three microphones:
a) Beamforming microphone to capture your voice as you speak.
b) Feedforward (FF) microphone to capture external noise for noise cancellation.
c) Feedback (FB) microphone to capture internal sound from the earbuds’ drivers for noise cancellation.
The voice microphone is a must-have, while FF and FB combine to give you Hybrid Noise Cancellation.
Jabra Evolve2 earbuds and AirPods Pro 2 have three microphones per earbuds, but Evolve2 earbuds also have bone-conducting sensors to capture your voice for clear communication. So while AirPods Pro 2 winEvolve2 in audio features, it loses out because of the absence of bone-conducting sensors in the most premium and advanced earbuds today.

Connection Range
Even though AirPods Pro 2 has Bluetooth 5.3, it has the same operating range as any Bluetooth 5 earbuds at 10 meters only. What makes the Jabra Evolve2 stand out is that it comes with a wireless dongle that boosts a stabilized connection and extends the range up to 20 meters (65 ft) from the computer. The USB dongle comes in either USB-C or USB-A type connector, not both. We suggest getting the USB-C type connector even if you have an older computer without the port. All you need to do is to get a USB-C to Type A adapter. Once you upgrade the computer, you can then use the USB-C directly.
Sensors
Apple AirPods Pro 2 has more sensors than Jabra Evolve2 earbuds, which probably explains the bigger size to accommodate the hardware to support those sensors. However, Jabra Evolve2 has bone-conducting sensors, which we felt are more useful than motion or speech-detecting sensors on the AirPod Pro 2. Jabra Evolve2 has a clear mission to provide the best communication features.
Auto Power Off
Unless you put the earbuds back into their casing, the Apple AirPods Pro 2 can neither be turned off automatically nor manually. Jabra Evolve2 earbuds can do both automatic or manual power off to conserve battery.

Ironically, the smaller Jabra Evolve2 earbuds have better battery life than the big AirPods Pro 2, as we would assume the latter has a bigger battery. We also dislike the lightning connector as most brands have already converted to USB-C, except for Apple.

Verdict
It is clear from the above comparison that both Jabra Evolve2 earbuds and Apple AirPods Pro 2 earbuds have their pros and cons.
For users who do not use Apple iPhone or iPad, buying the Jabra Evolve2 earbuds is recommended, as your smartphone may not reap the full benefits of the Apple AirPods Pro 2.
For Apple users, you can choose either brand depending on your needs. If you need the best earbuds for stable and precise communications, then Jabra Evolve2 earbuds is the better choice. If you prefer an earbud for the best 3D surround sound effects with dynamic head tracking, then the AirPods Pro 2 is your only choice.
And finally, you can always buy both since their casing is so small and lightweight, you can carry both daily.
