Novita Instant Hot Water Dispenser W11 Review

Novita W11 Water Dispenser

The Novita Instant Hot Water Dispenser W11 is capable of dispensing hot, ultra-filtrated water up to 90 degrees celsius instantly. This review is based on the actual use of the dispenser for about 6 months or more.

Below is a summary of the Pros and Cons. Please do not be alarm by the number of “Cons” as some are there because it is inherent in the mid-tier or portable design.

ProsCons
Zero installation does not require installing water pipes.Dispensing into small cups will cause messy splattering around the dispenser.
Slim and compact design.Occasionally pause after a few seconds of dispensing.
Large water capacity of 4.6 litres. The maximum temperature is 90 degrees celsius only.
5-stage ultra-filtration filter with 3,000 litres usage life.No UV germicidal lamp
5 temperature setting.Need to manually refill water.
Hot water protection lock.Slow dispensing for filtered, drinking water at room temperature.
2W low standby power consumption.

Installation Free[tie_index]Installation Free[/tie_index]

The biggest advantage of the Novita Instant Hot Water Dispenser W11 is that it does not require any installation of water piping. The disadvantage is that the water tank has to be manually refilled, which is fine if the water consumption is not too high on a daily basis. As such, it is more suitable for home use and not for offices or gyms with say, more than 10 people.

Since it is free from installation hazards and is slim and compact, the W11 can be placed almost anywhere in the house, including a bedroom, study room and living room. The size of Novita Instant Hot Water Dispenser W11 is just 180mm(front) x 380mm(deep) x 420mm(tall), and weigh 8.27 kg.

Although the marketing material says this is portable, we do not quite agree unless the dispenser comes with a battery option. We opine that if there is no built-in battery, it is not considered “portable” in the modern sense. However, we understand the reason for calling it “portable” (or rather movable) is because the dispenser is not bounded to one fixed location due to water pipes.

Bacteria and Microbial Activity Inhibition[tie_index]Bacteria and Microbial Activity Inhibition[/tie_index]

Although there is no germicidal UV lamp in the Novita Instant Hot Water Dispenser W11 model, the 5-stage ultrafiltration includes their trademark Hydropure elements that inhibit microbial activity through redox reaction and hydroxyl radical and hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide readily dissolves in water and is harmless in small concentrations (source).

The fourth layer of the advanced ultra hollow membrane can remove 99.99% of bacterial and suspended colloids upt to 0.1 microns.

The silver in the final “Silver Sintered Post-Carbon Block” provides silver ions for bacterial resistance. Silver ions in the right concentration is capable of killing many types of disease-causing micro-organisms. (source)

Although not a 100% replacement for the lack of germicidal UV lamp, we feel that the ultra-filtration system already gave us peace of mind. For those who are hypersensitive about squeaky clean water, you can check out HydroCube™ Hot/Cold Water Dispenser W29 which at $1,999 SGD (USD 1500) cost more than 3 times the price of Novita W11 at $600 SGD (USD 440).

Temperature Setting[tie_index]Temperature Setting[/tie_index]

There are five temperature settings, including 40, 60 80, 90 degrees celsius and room temperature. The maximum temperature for instant water dispensing is 90 degrees celsius only, but we have tested it to work for instant coffee, English and Earl Grey tea.

  • 40 degrees celsius: This lukewarm water is very useful in the morning and all-day round for staying hydrated.
  • 60 degrees celsius: We find this temperature most suitable for making powdered milk which contains heat-sensitive nutrients.
  • 80 and 90 degrees celsius: For instant coffee and green tea, 80 degrees celsius should be adequate. For English Lipton tea, Earl Grey, or certain Chinese tea, probably 90 degrees celsius would be best.

There is a safety lock for temperature from 60 degrees onwards.

Volume Setting and Dispensing[tie_index]Volume Setting and Dispensing[/tie_index]

User can select fixed volume dispensing of 90ml, 150ml, 250ml and 330ml or free flow. This is useful when we know how much water we need.

In the ideal world, we just leave the cup and press the button, walk away for a few seconds and return to take the cup. That is not always the case, unless you like to have a messy pantry to clean up later.

The magnetic tray needs to be changed to an adjustable height tray, such as a hook. The tray seems to be designed in a rush without much thought or testing.

Another irritation is that occasionally the dispenser pauses dispensing after the first few seconds and display two icons “Purify” and “Please Wait”. This happened in the morning when only two or three persons have used it more than 30 minutes apart, so we do not see any reason why it should purify when we are using it. The design should pre-purify at least a certain volume when idling so that users do not need to wait when they are dispensing.

The machine is often used every day, so we are assuming that it is not activating the “self-cleaning” system due to being unused for 3 days. So, while we thought that one button press will deliver our goods, that is not the ideal case. We have to press the button again if it pauses for whatever reason.

The W11 has an IPX1 rating, which is protected from dripped water only. This should refer to the electronic front panel, so care is required when pouring water to refill the tank. We are not sure if the warranty covers this.

Other Alternatives

If you need a large volume of room temperature drinking water fast, it will be better to use a water purifier like the NP200 directly mounted to the water tap. It will not as squeaky clean as the W11, but it is good enough for drinking as it removes up to 99.99% of bacteria and suspended colloids of up to 0.1 micron while retaining essential minerals in the water.

As mentioned earlier, those who are hypersensitive about squeaky clean water can check out HydroCube™ Hot/Cold Water Dispenser W29 which cost $1,999 SGD (USD 1500), 3 times more than the price of Novita W11 at $600 SGD (USD 440).

This is not an instant water dispenser, but comes with a hot and cold water tank that can deliver water from 6 to 98 degrees celsius, and comes with an advanced UV germicidal lamp. The size is also quite small at just 300x400x355mm, but so is the water tank, which is 1.3 litres and 1.4 litres for hot and cold water respectively.

Review Summary[tie_index]Review Summary[/tie_index]

The Novita Instant Hot Water Dispenser W11 is safe and convenient for making all sorts of warm or hot beverages throughout the day. The tray for the cup needs to be adjustable in height to prevent splattering.
